Road closures in place for Deva Triathlon this weekend

This weekend will see the 27th year of The Deva Triathlon, with competitors swimming, cycling and running across Chester.

The Olympic distance triathlon will be held in the city centre this Sunday (1 June), starting at Grosvenor Park - with various road closures in place.

The following roads will be closed from 3am to 4pm:

  • Souters Lane – Pepper Street to The Groves (Whole Length)
  • Grosvenor Park Terrace – The Royal Chester Rowing Club Entrance to The Groves
  • The Groves and Rear Road – From Grosvenor Park Terrace for its whole length

From 5:30am to 1pm, the A51 Christleton Road/Boughton – Challinor Street to The Bars (nearside westbound lane) will also be closed.

The following roads will be closed from 6am to 11am:

  • Vicars Lane – Whole Length Union Street to Little St John Street (nearside westbound lane)
  • Pepper Street – Newgate Street to Volunteer Street (nearside westbound lane)
  • Park Street – Whole Length Little St John Street to Duke Street
  • Duke Street – Whole Length Park Street to Lower Bridge Street

From 6am to 1pm, the following roads will be closed:

  • Lower Bridge Street – Castle Street to Old Dee Bridge Old Dee Bridge
  • Lower Bridge Street to Handbridge
  • Handbridge - Old Dee Bridge to Queen's Park Road
  • Castle Drive - Little Roodee Carpark Entrance to Lower Bridge Street
  • A5268 Grosvenor Park Road - A51 The Bars to Union Street (nearside westbound lane)
  • A5268 Union Street - whole length Grosvenor Park Road to Vicars Lane

From 7am to 12pm, the B5130 Chester Road, Churton – Sibbersfield Lane to its southerly junction with Stannage Lane will be closed.

For a total of six hours, the following roads will be closed from 8:30am to 2:30pm:

  • Bottoms Lane – whole length from Edinburgh Way Edinburgh Way
  • Bottoms Lane to Elizabeth Crescent Elizabeth Crescent
  • Edinburgh Way to Lower Park Road
  • Lower Park Road – whole length Elizabeth Crescent to Victoria Crescent 
  • Victoria Crescent – Lower Park Road to entrance onto Queens Park Suspension Bridge

The Order will also close the gap in the central reservation of A51 Boughton at its junction with Hoole Lane at 5:30am until 1pm.

The Order prohibits parking/waiting for all vehicles, including Blue Badge Holders, from Saturday 31 May from 7pm until 5pm the next day.

This includes loading and unloading on the following lengths of road:

  • Souters Lane – Little St John Street to The Groves (Whole Length)
  • The Groves – Roundabout with Souters Lane to 122m east of the Old Dee Bridge

The Order will also prohibit parking, waiting, loading and unloading for all vehicles - including Blue Badge Holders from 5am until 1pm.

These roads include:

  • Grosvenor Park Road – A51 The Bars to Bath Street (both sides including residents parking bays)
  • Sandy Lane, Boughton – Dee Fords Avenue to Christleton Road (northbound lane)
  • Bottoms Lane – whole length from Edinburgh Way
  • Edinburgh Way – Bottoms Lane to Elizabeth Crescent
  • Elizabeth Crescent – Edinburgh Way to Lower Park Road
  • Lower Park Road – whole length Elizabeth Crescent to Victoria Crescent
  • Victoria Crescent – Lower Park Road to entrance onto Queens Park Suspension Bridge

Alternative routes for traffic should proceed via Grosvenor Street, Grosvenor Road and Overleigh Road.

Traffic Diverted from B5130 Chester Road, Churton should proceed via Sibbersfield Lane, Barton Road/High Stret and Churton Road, Farndon.

Pedestrian access to premises situated on or adjacent to the above roads will be maintained at all times.
