Conservative candidate Stephen Mosley has won the Christleton and Huntington by-election by 92 votes, securing a seat on Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Mosley received 1,214 votes (32.9 per cent), narrowly ahead of Green Party candidate Steve Davies on 1,122 votes (30.4 per cent). Turnout was 44.63 per cent, with 3,694 votes cast.

The by-election was held on Thursday 11 June, following the death of Conservative councillor Stuart Parker MBE, a long-serving local representative whose legacy included his role in the development of Storyhouse.

Cllr Mosley will now represent the Christleton and Huntington ward alongside Cllr Mark Williams, who currently sits as a Reform UK councillor after leaving the Conservative Party in 2025.

A former Member of Parliament for the City of Chester constituency between 2010 and 2015, Cllr Mosley also served on Chester City Council, representing the Handbridge and St Mary's ward from 2000 until the authority's abolition in 2009.

Five candidates contested the seat. Reform UK candidate Martin Andrew Kemp received 635 votes (17.2 per cent), while Labour's Fran Riley secured 389 votes (10.5 per cent) and Liberal Democrat Chris Ward polled 331 votes (9 per cent).

Responding to the result, a spokesperson for Cheshire West and Chester Conservatives said: "Stephen set out a positive vision and plan of action during the campaign and will work hard on behalf of residents right across every village and parish of the ward.

"He succeeds our colleague and friend, the late Stuart Parker MBE - a man who took all of his responsibilities seriously and worked hard with diligent commitment to everyone he represented over the years.

"We look forward to working alongside him in the months ahead, particularly as we focus on setting out our vision for how a Conservative-led Council after May 2027 will make a difference to your lives."

Green Party candidate Steve Davies, who finished second, received 1,122 votes and came within 92 votes of winning the seat.

A spokesperson for Cheshire West & Chester Green Party said: "A very close result in #Christleton & #Huntington last night with STEVE DAVIES Cheshire West & Chester Green Party gaining the highest increase in vote share and only missing out by 92 votes.

"Thank you to the 1122 residents that put your faith in Steve. We will not walk away. We will continue to hold the Conservative/Reform Councillors in the area to account. We go again in May 2027."

Cllr Parker died on Sunday 5 April 2026, prompting tributes from colleagues across Cheshire in recognition of his nearly two decades of public service.
