Remembrance services will take place at Chester Cathedral next month, led by The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Sherin Akhtar.

Joined by the chair of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cllr Akhtar will lead the service at Chester Cathedral, starting at 10.15am on Sunday 9 November.

On 11 November, there will be an Armistice Day service at Chester Cathedral Gardens, commencing at 10.50am.

This Remembrance Sunday will also commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe and Victory over Japan.

"It is an honour to be part of this year's events, especially at a time when many parts of the world remain affected by conflict and unrest," said the Lord Mayor of Chester.

"Now more than ever, it is vital that communities come together to honour and remember those who have been killed or injured, as well as those who continue to face the harsh realities of conflict today.

"On this 80th anniversary year of VE and VJ Day, Remembrance Sunday is our chance to give thanks to everyone who served and who helped re-build our communities after the world wars.

"In these globally troubled times, it is also important that residents come together to remember and thank those who continue serve in the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces today."

The Very Reverend Dr Dean Tim Stratford added: "Remembrance Sunday is a day of reflection and remembrance for the resilience of the human spirit and the pursuit of peace.

"Chester Cathedral is the central point for all Chester's remembrance events and we welcome all members of the community to attend regardless of faith, beliefs or background."

Details of other local remembrance services and events can be found on the council's website.
