Chester Zoo will close early on Thursday (25 June) amid forecasts of extreme temperatures.

Temperatures in Chester are expected to reach highs of 33C, prompting the zoo to shut its gates at 2pm to help protect visitors and staff during the hottest part of the day.

Visitors who have pre-booked tickets for Thursday are being advised to check their emails for information about their bookings.

A spokesperson for Chester Zoo said: "Due to the extreme heat forecast for the afternoon of Thursday 25 June, we'll be closing early at 2pm for the safety of our visitors and colleagues.

"We'll be open as normal on Wednesday and Friday. At all times, our team of dedicated keepers will, of course, make sure all of the animals and plants are safely cared for."

The zoo said it is expected to return to its usual opening hours on Friday.
