Chester station pub moves closer to £50k fundraiser target
The team behind the The Chester Station Tap Room have celebrated hitting the £30,000 mark for the project crowdfunding.
In an ambitious project, the brewery announced plans to take over an unused section of Chester Railway Station, revamping the historic grade II listed building and creating 20 jobs in the area.
A fundraiser has been set up to transform the location into 'the best beer bar in Chester', with a set goal of £50,000.
The Crowdfund 'takeover party', held at The Brewery Tap over the weekend, helped reach over half that goal.
Announcing the milestone news, Chester-based brewery Spitting Feathers said: "Thanks to your incredible support at The Brewery Tap Chester this weekend.
"We've smashed through the £30,000 mark for our Chester Station Tap Room crowdfunding.
"You've been amazing, enjoying our beers and pies and helping us get this far.
"But we're not there yet! We need to hit our £50,000 target, or we get nothing and all pledges are refunded.
"We're so close! Please, dig deep and help us reach our goal. Check out our fantastic rewards on Crowdfunder – there's something for everyone!
Set to open their newest location in Chester train station this Easter, 'Spitting Feathers' opened The Brewery Tap, on Lower Bridge Street, as its first pub in the city back in 2008.
Remaining cautiously optimistic, Matthew Walley, director of Spitting Feathers, spoke to Chester Nub News about the fundraising efforts.
He said: "We thought people may want to support us in bringing this beautiful building back into use and give the station and Chester's residents and visitors the kind of hospitality venue the station deserves.
"Every penny will go into this pub project; It's going to be absolutely ace boozer.
"It seems like it's exactly what the area needs."
