Chester Pride organisers have issued guidance to attendees over flags and banners ahead of this weekend's event.

The annual event will return to the city this Saturday (15 August), with a full day of live entertainment, community activities and celebrations planned at Castle Square.

Organisers say items brought onto the site, including click fans, T-shirts and banners, must not contain offensive wording, foul language or material targeting an individual, organisation or campaign.

The guidance has been issued "at the request of Cheshire West & Chester Council", according to organisers.

Attendees have also been asked to only bring flags of an LGBT+ nature, with organisers saying flags in support of or against any country, organisation, political party or ongoing conflict should not be brought to the event.

A spokesperson for Chester Pride said: "At the request of Cheshire West & Chester Council any accessory item such as click fans, t-shirts and or Banners but not exclusive to being brought on to site should not contain any offensive wording, foul language or target any Individual, organisation or campaign, any item that goes against this request will not be permitted on to site.

"We also request that flags being brought on to site should only be of a LGBT+ nature and not in support or against of any country, organisation, political party or ongoing conflict.

"Chester pride is a safe space for persons of all ages and remains natural in issues, matters or opinions outside of a LGBT+ nature."

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day across the M&S BANK Stage and ICONS Stage, with Danny Beard, 911, Adam Rickitt and Sonia among the headline names appearing throughout the day.

The M&S BANK Stage will also feature Kelly Llorena, Lolly, LIPZTIK, Jay Carter Jamieson, DJ Dan Walker, Samira Hills and Richard Sefton, alongside Sabrina Carpenter and Avril Lavigne tribute acts and the Proud Marys.

Accessibility support will also be available, including a viewing platform, noise-cancelling headphones, large-print guides and British Sign Language interpreters for the main stage.
