A military regiment will march through Chester this weekend to mark being awarded one of the highest civic honours a local authority can grant.

The parade will take place on Saturday 18 July, when 22 Multi Role Medical Regiment (22 MRMR) will exercise its Freedom of Borough of Cheshire West and Chester.

The honour was awarded by the council in December 2024 in recognition of the regiment's service and strong links with the borough.

Celebrating Chester's long military heritage, the Freedom Parade will give residents the opportunity to show their support for serving personnel, veterans and military families.

Cllr Rob Bisset, chair of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: "This parade recognises the Regiment's outstanding service and celebrates the strong ties between the Armed Forces and our communities across Cheshire West and Chester."

"We are proud to acknowledge the dedication, professionalism and commitment of the men and women who serve our country.

"I would encourage residents and visitors to join us in the city centre on 18 July to celebrate this special occasion and show their support for our Armed Forces."

Temporary road closures will be in place across Chester city centre to allow the parade to take place safely.

Further closures will be in place on Northgate Street between Hunter Street and Princess Street, and Princess Street between Northgate Street and a point around 50 metres west, from 11am until 1pm on Saturday.

Parking, loading and unloading restrictions will also be in place during the event, although pedestrian access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
