A 59-year-old woman has been arrested following a house fire in Chester yesterday evening (11 August).

Crews were called to the property on King Street at around 6.21pm on Monday evening, with one fire engine from Chester and another from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service in attendance.

The fire was concentrated on the first floor of the home and the road was closed by police whilst crews tackled the fire.

One casualty was assisted from the property and assessed by fire crews.

Police arrested one woman on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and ventilated the property using a high-pressure fan. They then carried out safety checks using a gas detector and a thermal imaging camera.

Burnt materials were removed from the property and floorboards in the affected areas were examined for signs of fire spread.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 6.18pm on Monday 11 August police were called to a fire at an address in King Street, Chester.

"They gained access to the address and arrested a 59-year-old woman on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

"Enquiries are continuing."
