Award-winning Wirral cake shop expands to Chester

An award-winning Wirral-based cake shop is set to open its second store in Chester.
The established Abba Cakes will take over 35 Lower Bridge Street as its second site, following the success of its Hoylake shop.
Founded by Colombian-born patisserie chef Laura Alejandra, Abba Cakes is known for its beautifully crafted cakes and desserts, blending Latin and Mediterranean influences.
The bakery caters to weddings, birthdays, special events and everyday indulgences - also offering catering services including dessert selection boxes and charcuterie-style grazing tables.
Abba Cakes recently gained national recognition by winning the top accolade at the Britain's Best Cake Awards 2025, where its signature chocolate cake was officially crowned Britain's Best Cake.
Chester property experts Legat Owen announced the successful letting, citing the unit as a "prominently positioned retail space" in the heart of the city.

"Chester is a city full of charm and creativity, and we're thrilled to bring our cakes to a new community," said owner, Laura Alejandra.
"We can't wait to welcome customers through our doors and be part of the city's vibrant food scene."
Tom Creer, associate director at Legat Owen, added: "We're thrilled to welcome Abba Cakes to Chester's thriving independent retail scene.
"35 Lower Bridge Street offers a fantastic location with strong footfall and character, making it an ideal setting for a growing brand like Abba Cakes.
"It's always rewarding to help creative businesses find the right space to flourish."
With an official opening date yet to be announced, the property is currently undergoing refurbishment.
