Chester Cathedral unveils new lunar exhibit
By Dherran Titherington 21st Jan 2026
Chester Cathedral will host a new installation next month, fusing lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound.
From Thursday 12 February to Sunday 15 March, the cathedral will host artist Luke Jerram's moon sculpture, complete with a surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.
Measuring six metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface.
At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon's surface.

Guests can also attend one of the many events and activities that will be taking place in the moonlight - including family events, talks, concerts, evening openings and more.
Throughout the exhibition there is no charge for daytime entry to the Cathedral
However, a suggested donation of £5 per person is encouraged, which contributes to the hosting of the exhibition - alongside the ongoing maintenance and development of Chester Cathedral.
