Money from housing developers is set to be used to revamp a BMX track in Chester.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed funding has now been secured to renovate the facility at Westminster Park, following requests from the local community.

The project will be payed through section 106 funding - money raised from housing developers when they build in the local area.

Council leader Cllr Louise Gittins said in a statement to Nub News: "Following feedback from the annual ROSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) inspection report 2021, plus inspections, community and Local Ward Member feedback, it was identified there was a need to improve the surface and replenish the existing BMX track in Westminster Park.

"Users of the facility and Friends of Westminster Park were consulted, and we looked for relevant funding.

"Section 106 funding was suitable and available for this project as the contract specified that the money could be used to provide or improve outdoor youth recreation facilities in the Wrexham Road area.

"I'm delighted that the BMX track at Westminster Park met the criteria for Section 106 funding.

"By delivering these improvements we ensured efficient use of the limited funds available to us by responding to the ROSPA feedback."

A timeline for the works is yet to be confirmed.
