A Chester academic has taken part in a gruelling hike to support breast cancer awareness, just nine days after her most recent chemotherapy treatment ended.

The two friends, Dr Shelley Price and Professor Julieanna Powell-Turner, hiked 11 miles along a coastal path in Aberystwyth in a bid to raise money for Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

The challenging hike took on greater meaning to Price, who has been diagnosed with Secondary (metastatic) Breast Cancer.

She tackled the trail just nine days after her most recent chemotherapy treatment ended.

"Whilst it was a very challenging day, it meant the world to me to be able to achieve this for myself and to be able to contribute and support such a life-saving organisation," said Dr Shelley Price, deputy head of Psychology.

"The beautiful landscape helped to distract from the pain in the bones and muscles, and the generous donations helped to keep us going.

"We are very thankful."

Professor Julieanna Powell-Turner, associate dean of research and innovation, added: "It was a fabulous day in the great outdoors with a very dear friend and the wind in my hair.

"Same time next year wherever it may be."

'T!tty Trail' first began in 2023 and has grown year on year to become a large-scale cancer awareness and fundraising event.

Lingen Davies host the trail in October, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness month since it began in 2023.

Shelley and Julieanna have been taking part, with their first one completed just five months after Shelley's first breast cancer diagnosis.

The duo are raising awareness about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, and supporting future research initiatives.
