Cheshire by-election sees former councillor vying for Tory seat

A former councillor is looking to make a comeback in local politics at an upcoming by-election.
Retired teacher and current school governor Nicholas Hebson will be contesting Strawberry ward in Ellesmere Port for the Conservatives when residents head to the polls there on October 2.
The by-election was triggered when the seat was vacated by the Labour incumbent, who stepped down for health reasons.
Mr Hebson is a long-standing resident of Ellesmere Port and retired teacher.
He was an Ellesmere Port and Neston borough councillor for the then Strawberry ward between 2007 and 2009.
That council was one of three to be abolished in 2009 – including Vale Royal and City of Chester – and superseded by what is now Cheshire West and Chester (CWAC).
Although he retired as a teacher 'some years ago', he said he retains his interest in education as an active governor at two local primary schools.
A spokesman for the local Conservative group said his campaign was focused on a 'practical plan of delivery'.
He said this includes fighting for a fair share of resources for the Strawberry ward, filling more potholes, more pavement repairs and securing more resources for the area.
The campaign is also focused on ensuring residents have a real say on new development before any decisions for mass house building are taken locally and holding the Labour administration of CWAC to account robustly - as part of the wider Conservative team, such as when it comes to Council Tax increases.

Residents in the ward will require photo ID to cast their vote. A list of acceptable forms of ID can be found here.
