Candidates have been finalised for an upcoming Cheshire West and Chester by-election.

The election was called for 22 January, following the death of veteran Conservative councillor Myles Hogg in November, leaving a vacancy in the Willaston and Thornton ward.

Five candidates will be contesting the seat. They are, in alphabetical order:

  • Carol Braithwaite – Liberal Democrats
  • Edd Flynn – Labour Party
  • Scott Fulton-Brown – Green Party
  • Richard Thomas Hare – Reform UK
  • Sion Roberts – The Conservative Party

The current makeup of Cheshire West and Chester Council is:

  • Labour 35
  • Conservative 20
  • The Green and Independent Alliance 5
  • Independent 2
  • Reform UK 3
  • Liberal Democrat 1
  • Unaligned Independent members 3
  • Vacancy 1

The council is currently run by a minority Labour administration.

Registered voters in the ward who wish to vote on the day must take an acceptable form of photo ID with them to the polling station.

A list of acceptable ID can be found here.
