Three people arrested after a woman was found with "serious head injuries" had been released without charge.

A 50-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man and a 50-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault after paramedics found a 44-year-old woman with injuries in Western Avenue, Chester.

However, police have now confirmed what was thought to have been an assault on Thursday (February 13) was an accident.

"Following an investigation into how the woman came by her injuries, we can now confirm this is believed to be an accident with no third party involvement," a Cheshire Constabulary statement said.

"The three who were arrested have since been released without charge."

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains at this time.
