Chester hearing experts issue warning as heatwave puts hearing aids at risk

With temperatures expected to exceed 38°C in parts of the UK this week, a hearing loss charity is urging hearing aid users to take extra care of their devices during the hot weather.
Around three million people across the UK rely on hearing aids, but high temperatures, sweat, humidity and direct sunlight can all affect how well the devices perform.
The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) is advising users not to leave hearing aids in direct sunlight, such as on a windowsill or in a parked car, as excessive heat can damage sensitive components.
If devices become wet, users are encouraged to use a drying kit to remove moisture and leave hearing aids safely stored overnight when not in use.
The charity also recommends waiting for suncream, insect repellent or other sprays to fully dry before inserting hearing aids, as oils and residue can clog microphones and reduce performance.
Supporting the advice, local audiology specialists at Hear Pure say they are available to help residents experiencing problems with their hearing aids during the current hot spell.
The independent clinic says summer-related issues such as moisture build-up and suncream contamination can quickly affect hearing aid performance if not dealt with promptly.
Cory, director and audiologist at Hear Pure Chester, said: "If you have hearing aids from elsewhere and cannot get the immediate support or maintenance items you need this week, we are here to help.
"You don't need to be an existing patient to pop in for advice, specialist drying kits, or troubleshooting."
Hear Pure provides support for hearing aid users across North Wales, Chester and the Wirral from its clinics in Hoole, Chester, and Heswall.
