Family Clerk - Barristers' Chambers (Chester) - Hybrid Working Offered After Probation Location: Chester Salary: 25,000 - 40,000 (depending on experience) Reports to: Senior Family Clerk Type: Full-time, Permanent

An esteemed and highly regarded Barristers' Chambers in Chester is seeking a Family Clerk to join its busy and growing team. The Chambers boasts a strong reputation across family, crime, and civil law, with a highly respected team of 26 family law barristers, including leading counsel. The team handles a broad range of public and private children law, family finance, and property matters across Wales, the North and North West, and the Midlands.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced clerk or an organised, driven individual from a fast-paced legal or administrative background with transferable skills. Legal secretaries with significant audio typing experience are also encouraged to apply, as this role involves a high volume of typing and documentation.

Main Purpose of the Role: Working closely with the Senior Family Clerk and the wider team to ensure the smooth operation of the family team. The role involves supporting barristers' practices and maintaining a high standard of service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients and prospective clients.

  • Advise solicitors and clients on suitable counsel, availability, and fee structures.

  • Manage daily scheduling, reallocations, and issue resolution in support of barristers.

  • Maintain proactive communication with courts, solicitors, and internal staff.

  • Record outcomes from court work, conferences, and paperwork.

  • Support business development by maintaining and developing referrer relationships.

  • Attend networking events and marketing initiatives when required.

  • Ensure compliance with Chambers' policies and procedures.

  • Provide general administrative and clerking support to the team.

Skills and Experience Required:
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage a busy workload independently and as part of a team.

  • Professional, client-focused attitude with attention to detail.

  • Experience clerking a family team is highly desirable.

  • Candidates from similar professional or high-pressure environments will also be considered if they can demonstrate strong transferable skills.

  • Legal secretaries with substantial audio typing experience are welcome to apply, as the role requires high levels of document production and typing.
