Thursday 5 November
brand-new show celebrating the music and mirth of much-missed writer and comedienne Victoria Wood is set visit Storyhouse in Chester as part of a nationwide tour.
Produced by the team behind the critically acclaimed 'Looking For Me Friend, 'What Wood Victoria Do' will hit the stage at Storyhouse's Garret theatre on Thursday 5th November at 7.30pm.
Performed by Paulus The Cabaret Geek and directed by the multi-award-winning Sarah-Louise Young (An Evening Without Kate Bush), this new show takes an even deeper dive into the world of Wood. A celebration of those women who don't mince their words but make everything better with a cuppa and a mutual distaste for next door's extension, the show features a fresh batch of brilliant tunes from The Victoria Wood Songbook, full of Victoria's legendary observational wit and wisdom. Just what would Victoria make of an Air Fryer, The Repair Shop and K-Pop Demon Hunters? Paulus The Cabaret Geek in on hand to provide some answers.
Marking 10 years since Victoria's passing, 'What Wood Victoria Do' premiered in Bowness on Windemere at the newly named Victoria Wood Theatre in September 2026, a venue Victoria herself was patron of and which continues to be run by friends from within her close circle. The tour continues this Autumn and next Spring, playing selected venues across the country, including Storyhouse.
Speaking about the show, Paulus said "Though Victoria may be gone, she has left behind so many nuggets of advice to help us build community based upon camaraderie, gossip and Custard Creams. There'll be songs from her musicals including Acorn Antiques, Easter eggs for the mega fans and plenty for those less familiar with Victoria, because her words are just so funny. Vic's work is set in hairdressing salons, keep fit classes, the WI - and as a little queer kid growing up in the 1980s, that's where I was welcomed when I wasn't welcomed anywhere else. Those were the doors opened to me by ladies who said yes and they offered kindness in a world which was very unkind to a kid like me."
