Following its recent million-pound refurbishment, Piccolino Chester invited Chester Nub News to sample its refreshed menu and experience the restaurant's new look firsthand.

The evening got off to an excellent start with a glass of Centosere, a beautifully smooth Sardinian red wine. Recommended by the staff, it proved an excellent choice, offering vibrant notes of ripe red fruits balanced by a soft, elegant finish.

To experience a selection of the new menu, we opted for the Lasagne al Wagyu, Mafalde al Ragù and the hand-stretched Napoletana Diavola pizza.

A standout dish was the Lasagne al Wagyu. Made with slow-cooked Wagyu beef and featuring 25 layers of truffle béchamel, rich meat sauce and fresh basil, it delivered indulgent flavours without feeling overly heavy.

Served with an additional side of truffle béchamel, the lasagne combined a rich tomato sauce with a wonderfully crisp topping.

Equally impressive was the Mafalde al Ragù. The thick ribbon-shaped pasta retained a pleasant bite that complemented the rich, 24-hour slow-cooked beef shin ragù. Finished with Parmesan, flat-leaf parsley and extra virgin olive oil, the dish showcased beautifully tender meat that simply melted in the mouth.

For those who enjoy a little spice, the Napoletana Diavola pizza delivered plenty of flavour.

Topped with tomato, spicy spianata Calabrese salami, 'nduja, stracciatella, mozzarella, red chilli and flat-leaf parsley, the cooling stracciatella complemented the spicy meats perfectly, whilst the hand-stretched dough was soft and airy with a lightly crisp crust.

To round off the evening, we sampled the homemade tiramisu and a soft choux bun.

Made with espresso, amaretto-soaked sponge biscuits, mascarpone cream and cocoa powder, the tiramisu was served traditionally tableside and in a generous portion. Rich and creamy yet surprisingly light, it provided a classic Italian finish to the meal.

The choux bun was irresistibly indulgent, filled with fresh cream and Nutella, then dusted with icing sugar and accompanied by extra chocolate sauce on the side.

From the carefully selected wines and authentic Italian cuisine to the warm, stylish décor and attentive service, Piccolino Chester delivers on every front.

Following its impressive refurbishment and menu refresh, it remains an ideal destination for a special occasion, celebratory meal or simply an evening of quality Italian dining in the heart of the city.
