A Chester city centre pub is celebrating its inclusion in the 2027 edition of The Good Beer Guide.

Known locally for its unique decor, real ales and home-cooked food, The Albion Inn has been included in the new edition of the "beer bible" published by The Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA).

Including detailed listings of more than 4,500 pubs, the newly published guide features the facilities available at each venue, alongside a brewery section covering 1,700 breweries and some 5,000 beers.

The Albion was run by landlord Mike Mercer, who passed away in 2021 just a few weeks short of celebrating half a century at the helm.

Ensuring that Mike's legacy remains intact, his wife Christina continues to run the venue as a traditional pub alongside their daughter Clare Churchill.

The pub continues to offer a cozy, child-free atmosphere with no "intrusive music", and no slot machines, complete with its WW1 memorabilia, William Morris wallpaper and traditional 3-room layout of bar, lounge and snug.

Regulars recently gathered at the pub for the official CAMRA presentation, where Brian Vardy, chairman of the West Cheshire Branch, presented Christina Mercer with the pub's certificate.

"It was Mike's long-held belief that good beer should be at the heart of every good pub," Christina said.
