In response to growing demand for industry-experienced educators, tradespeople are being invited to consider teaching at Cheshire College.

Cheshire College is currently offering options for professionals to move from the site into the classroom, to share their skills and help train the next generation of workers.

"Tradespeople have knowledge and experience that can't be learned from a textbook," said Ruth Szolkowska, Vice Principal for Innovation, Curriculum and Quality.

"By stepping into the classroom, they have the chance to pass on their skills and inspire students in a real, practical way."

On 25 February, the college is hosting a 'Teach Your Trade' recruitment event to give tradespeople the opportunity to find out how their skills can be transferred into education.

The event will take place from 4.30–6.30pm.

Those attending will be able to meet college staff, learn about current teaching vacancies, and find out about the support available for new teachers - including those with no previous classroom experience or formal teaching qualifications.

A key part of this support is a 12-week Introduction to teaching course, designed to give aspiring teachers the confidence, knowledge and practical skills needed to work in further education.

Participants will learn about lesson planning, classroom management, assessment, learner engagement, safeguarding, and professional responsibilities.

Those who successfully complete the programme can progress to the Level 3 Award in Education and Training, further developing their teaching skills and preparing for a rewarding career in education.

Ruth added: "Our aim is to make the transition from industry to teaching as straightforward and supportive as possible.

"It's a great opportunity for anyone who wants a career change while staying connected to their area of expertise."

Teaching at Cheshire College allows tradespeople to share their expertise with students while continuing to work within their trade outside of the classroom, keeping their industry skills current and relevant.

Cheshire College currently has teaching vacancies across a range of trades and other areas.

Tradespeople interested in exploring teaching and learning more about the opportunities available are encouraged to attend the recruitment event and register their interest.
