A Chester taxi company has recently supported three charities through an initiative that turns journeys into funding for community causes.

Cresta Cares, a scheme launched by Cresta Cars, sets aside 5p from every taxi journey booked through the company's app for a selected local charity or good cause.

Three organisations have benefited from the initiative so far - including KidsBank Chester, Rupert's Rainbow and Giddo's Gift.

KidsBank Chester provides free essential items to families with children aged 0 to 12 who are experiencing financial hardship or other challenging circumstances.

Operating across Cheshire West, Chester and Flintshire, the charity supplies items including clothing, school uniforms, bedding, toiletries, books and baby equipment to families in need.

Its work aims to ease the effects of childhood poverty by providing practical support as quickly as possible. Families supported by the organisation face a range of challenges, including homelessness, financial difficulties and domestic abuse.

The second charity to benefit from funding is Rupert's Rainbow, a fundraising and awareness campaign established to support Rupert Smith, a young boy from North Wales who has been diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC).

The ultra-rare, potentially life-threatening neurological disorder affects approximately one in a million children. Rupert experiences regular seizures and has stopped breathing on several occasions, requiring emergency hospital admissions.

AHC can cause a range of symptoms, including abnormal eye movements, developmental delays and cognitive impairment. With no cure currently available, Rupert's family is working to access treatment in the United States in the hope of improving his quality of life and future prospects.

Cresta Cares is also supporting Giddo's Gift, which recently received a donation of £642.

The UK-registered charity supports teenagers and young adults aged 13 to 24 who are living with cancer, as well as bereaved families across North West England and North Wales.

Established in memory of Jordan Giddins, who died aged 18 in 2017 following a battle with Ewing's sarcoma, the charity aims to ease the emotional and financial pressures associated with a cancer diagnosis.

Its support includes financial grants, gifts, hospital care packages and access to a dedicated holiday respite facility. Giddo's Gift also funds research into childhood and young adult cancers, helping to support advances in treatment.

Cresta Cars provides taxi services across Chester, Flintshire and the surrounding areas, including airport transfers, executive travel, minibuses and accessible vehicles.

Through Cresta Cares, the company aims to ensure its day-to-day business can also benefit local charities and community organisations providing practical help and essential support to people across the region.
