Tom Jones and Nile Rodgers & CHIC will perform at Chester Racecourse this Friday as part of a special night of live music.

The special night of live music will feature two of the biggest names in music, with Tom Jones performing songs from his more than 60-year career and Nile Rodgers bringing hits from his work with CHIC and other artists.

Jones has sold more than 100 million records and had 36 top 40 hits, while Rodgers has worked with artists including David Bowie, Madonna and Diana Ross.

The pair will bring their celebrated catalogues to Chester for what promises to be a major night of live music.

A dog show will be held at Exchange Square this Saturday as part of Chester Pride Month.

'Pooches of Pride', organised by Pup Culture and Chester Northgate, will feature four categories, including best trick, cutest pup and best dressed, with winners competing for Best in Show.

The winners and runners-up from each category will compete for Best in Show, with every entrant receiving a Denzel's treat bag and prizes including a KONG hamper worth more than £100.

Running from 10am to 3pm, the event will also feature a dog market with treats, toys and accessories. Half of all dog show ticket sales will be donated to Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home.

Afterglow - Chester Zoo - Until Sunday 16 August

Chester Zoo's 'Afterglow' allows visitors to explore the attraction after hours with live entertainment, themed activities and evening animal encounters.

Running until Sunday 16 August, the event takes place from 3pm to 8pm, with evening-only tickets available from £14.

This year's event features six themed zones, including giant animal puppets, roaming dinosaurs, a silent disco, live music, comedy shows and ranger talks. Visitors can also enjoy festival-style food, cocktails, fairground rides, giant bubble displays and interactive activities for all ages.

Many of the zoo's indoor habitats will remain open into the evening, alongside attractions including Treetop Challenge, Off Road Adventure and the Lazy River Boat Trip.

Open air theatre - Grosvenor Park - Until Sunday 23 August

You can catch two productions at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre this summer, with both running until Sunday 23 August.Featuring sword fights, romance and a folk soundtrack, Outlaws: A Robin Hood Story is a new take on the Robin Hood legend, following Robin and Little John as they steal from corrupt King John and return his stolen riches to the people.

Also showing is Let the Sun Shine!, a feel-good musical set in the summer of 1969. Packed with live music and dancing, it follows Harry as a colourful music festival transforms his quiet village and inspires him to follow his dreams.

The festival site will also feature a tepee bar and an expanded food and drink offering, including craft beers and frozen cocktails.

Cheshire's prehistoric past exhibition - Grosvenor Museum

Cheshire's ancient past is being brought to life in a new exhibition at Chester's Grosvenor Museum.

Running until Sunday 20 September, the exhibition explores the region's geological history, from prehistoric jungles and deep oceans to the landscapes we know today.

Visitors can discover fossils from the museum's collection, including Carboniferous plant remains from Wrexham, marine microfossils from Saltney and reptile footprints found on the Wirral.

The Grosvenor Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. Entry is free, with donations welcome.
