Chester Matalan store confirms closure in the new year
Chester's Matalan store on Stadium Way will permanently close its doors in the new year, due to its landlord opting to redevelop the site.
The news follows a planning application that was submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council.
It is likely the proposal seeks to convert the building into a warehouse.
A Matalan spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement.
It said: "Our Chester store will close on January 4, 2025.
"Our priority is to support our colleagues and we are working closely with all those affected and where possible offering them alternative positions.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed serving customers during our time in Chester and will evaluate opportunities to potentially reopen our doors in the area.
"In the meantime, our full range of products will be available via our website, app and in our nearby stores".
Matalan customers can continue to shop at nearby stores in Cheshire Oaks, Bromborough and Wrexham.
For returns, customers can return items to the store until January 4.
After that, they can return to one of the nearby stores or via post if it was an online order
In the planning application, no external works or physical alterations are proposed, with the impacts of the proposed development being 'limited and acceptable'.
The proposal is not made in relation to any specific occupier or operator.
