Rowvember will return to Chester this November, celebrating the city's world-famous Rows for an entire month.

This year's programme invites visitors to explore the only surviving continuous first-floor medieval galleries in Britain through a mix of free and ticketed events.

Led by Heritage Chester CIC, the annual event offers a fresh perspective on Chester's Grade I Listed Rows - from archaeological tales and building spotlights, to guided tours, treasure hunts and surprise performances.

On Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 November, attendees can take part in The Rows Volunteers Day and see the covered galleries up close.

Volunteers will be deep cleaning the walkways and stalls, sweeping away cobwebs, removing graffiti and doing some painting. All are welcome, with two sessions running at 9am and 1pm. Find out more here.

Also on Tuesday, a historian and a reenactor will uncover the story of Chester's Civil War siege during a talk in one of the city's oldest pubs.

It will take place at Ye Olde Boot Inn, which first opened its doors as an inn in 1643 - just as the conflict was tightening its grip on the city.

The talk is led by Dr Sam Chadwick, an early modern historian who teaches about the English Civil War, riots and rebellions, and Mike Graham, a reenactor and local history enthusiast, will also bring the period to life with a look at the clothes, equipment and experiences of the common soldier.

The Lockwood Legacy Tour on Saturday 7 November will uncover the stories behind Chester's iconic Rows on an exclusive walking tour led by the architects who carry on Lockwood's legacy.

Guests can learn some of the stories behind Lockwood & Son's Victorian reinvention of Chester's iconic Rows, told by the architects who carry on their legacy today.

On Tuesday 10 November, there will be a tour exploring Chester's Rows through a criminological lens with University of Chester criminologists, uncovering centuries of crime and punishment.

A talk will take visitors back to 1820s Chester on Saturday 14 November, discussing Susanna Mainwaring's glittering masquerades on Watergate Street. Drawing on the speaker's own original research and published work, this talk tells the story of Mrs Mainwaring and her masquerades.

It also explores how her gatherings fitted into the wider fashion for masquerading at the time, and into Chester's rich theatrical traditions.

A few days later, there will be an exclusive small-group visit to Lowe & Sons' Edwardian interior and private museum on Tuesday 17 November.

Attendees can step behind the shopfront of the longest-resident business on Chester's Rows for a rare, exclusive look inside the building.

Home to a fascinating museum of artefacts and documents, the tour will tell the story of the family and the history of the business.
