'ReMark' transforms empty retail space into thriving art hub

By Dherran Titherington   19th Feb 2025

Chester Visual Arts (CVA) has now unveiled 'ReMark', a modern art exhibition which saw 950 visitors in its opening weekend.

It features four acclaimed Northwest artists: Terry Duffy, Julie Saul, Julie Mayer and Anne Byrne.

The exhibition runs until 7 March 2025, at the CVA Exhibition Space in the Grosvenor Centre, Chester.

ReMark presents a diverse exploration of abstract art, encompassing both expressionist and geometric styles.

Visitors are invited to engage with the artworks through a 'Mark-Making area', encouraging personal creative expression inspired by the exhibition.

Alistair Tucker, chair of the board at Chester Visual Arts, said: "Chester Visual Arts aims to provide a space in Chester for contemporary art, serving both artists and the public.

"Art is vital; it attracts visitors, boosts tourism, and supports economic growth.

"Each exhibition we host receives outstanding attendance and positive feedback.

"Opening weekend of ReMark saw over 950 visitors experience the exhibition.

"Chester deserves a permanent space for contemporary art, and we're committed to making that a reality.

"We welcome anyone interested in supporting this vision to get in touch."

CVA is also hosting a workshop led by exhibiting artists Julie Saul and Julie Mayer, with a lecture from the curator, Juliet Cook, on 24 February from 10am to 4pm.

Priced at £75 per person, the abstract painting lecture and immersive workshop includes private access, refreshments and materials.
