It is no secret that Chester boasts a wide range of fantastic independent coffee shops.

As avid coffee fans, we decided to ask our readers for their favourite spots in the city and have been slowly making our way through your picks.

You can find a small selection of our favourite spots ranked below.

1) High Coffee Bar - Rufus Court

Taking first place on this list is the superb High Coffee Bar, the first specialty Ukrainian coffee bar in the UK.

Tucked away on Rufus Court, the small coffee shop is owned by Vlad and Albina, who came to Chester under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

Since opening the spot in late 2023, the couple have built a coffee shop based on the principles of bringing people together and providing speciality coffee for all.

With genuinely superb coffee on offer, this place is absolutely worth a visit if you're a fan of quality brews, warm service and relaxing vibes.

2) Just Coffee - Commonhall Street

Operating as a co-working space and coffee shop, Just Coffee offers a bright and cosy space to hot desk or simply enjoy a cup of quality coffee.

The location opened last summer, replacing what was once The Arc art gallery. Its ground-floor operates as a coffee shop, serving top-quality drinks alongside a selection of delicious food options.

Monday to Friday, the first floor operates as a co-working space, also with access to exceptional coffee and refreshments.

With each visit promising consistently good coffee, it is a must-try spot for anyone who is a fan of speciality coffee or looking for a new place to work.

3) Chalk - Watergate Street

Looking for fantastic coffee in the city centre and some tasty breakfast/lunch?

Chalk offers both, with a range of speciality coffee on offer, often showcasing various guest and batch brews, paired with a creative and hearty food menu.

The team are knowledgable and friendly, with a clear passion for good coffee and warm service. Chalk is a welcome addition to Chester's independent coffee shop scene and a must visit spot.

4) Little Yellow Pig - Godstall Lane / Westminster Road

With two locations in Chester, Little Yellow Pig can be found on Godstall Lane and Westminster Road.

Owners Richard and Lucy opened their first store in Hoole in 2014, before expanding to Godstall Lane earlier this year.

Now a well-known spot in the city, it serves a wide range of breakfast and brunch plates, alongside unique baked goods.

As for coffee, its selection is a must-try, with every visit guaranteeing warm service and well-made quality brews.

5) Ginger Monkey Number 31 - Christleton Road

This family-run spot boasts the friendliest service on the list, with a team of staff who go above and beyond to create a warm atmosphere for customers.

Having opened in 2020, Ginger Monkey roasts its own coffee, which can be found in store.

Offering a delightful menu of fresh food and drink, this very dog-friendly cafe offers a bright and cosy place to meet with family and friends, or even for a solo coffee date.

Located next to Poise studio, its also very convenient for a post-workout class brew.
