Operation Mincemeat: West End hit arrives in Chester this spring
By Dherran Titherington 19th Mar 2026
The acclaimed West End musical 'Operation Mincemeat' is set to arrive at Chester's Storyhouse this spring as part of its world tour.
Set in 1943, with the Allied forces struggling to gain the upper hand, the musical tells the remarkable true story of a daring and unconventional secret mission.
Equal parts farce, thriller and spy caper, 'Operation Mincemeat' follows the twisted, fast-paced events that helped change the course of the Second World War.
Originally a small-scale production at London's New Diorama Theatre in 2019, the show quickly gained a devoted following, leading to sold-out runs at the Southwark Playhouse and Riverside Studios.
It premiered in the West End in 2023, becoming the best-reviewed show in London theatre history with 113 five-star reviews. It is currently enjoying its 18th West End extension at the Fortune Theatre, running until 20 February 2027.
The production will be staged at the Chester city centre venue this May, with tickets starting at £31.50 for Storyhouse Members.
The 2026 touring cast includes Christian Andrews, Seán Carey, Katy Ellis, Georgina Hagen, Charlotte Hanna-Williams, Jamie-Rose Monk, Jordan Pearson, Morgan Phillips, and Holly Sumpton.
Presented by Avalon in association with SpitLip, 'Operation Mincemeat' has a book, music, and lyrics by David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts, with direction by Robert Hastie.
Set and costume design is by Ben Stones, lighting by Mark Henderson, sound by Mike Walker, and choreography by Jenny Arnold. Orchestral and vocal arrangements are by Steve Sidwell, with musical supervision by Joe Bunker.
