A theatre-themed karaoke bar could be the latest addition to Godstall Lane.

Lusman Pubs Limited has submitted a licensing application to Cheshire West and Chester Council for a small theatre-themed karaoke cafe and bar.

Named 'Backstage',the proposed venue located at 6 Godstall Lane has plans to host improv theatre nights and spoken word events. Proposals also include making the space available for local theatre groups and private rehearsal bookings.

The business has been described as a "cosy hideaway for lovers of the stage, the dramatic, the musical and the wonderfully unusual".

Under the proposals, the first floor would house the main bar and service area, along with seating and a small retail section. The ground floor would include additional seating, toilets, and back-of-house facilities.

Permission to sell alcohol both on and off the premises is also being sought, allowing customers to purchase sealed drinks such as wine and speciality beers to take away.

Screens throughout the venue would enable the showing of films and other entertainment during the day. Proposed opening hours are 10am to midnight, with extended hours until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The building was previously occupied by wedding dress shop Annabella of Chester, which operated from 1986 until its closure in July last year. The unit has remained vacant since.
