A man from Chester has been banned from entering the city centre for five years after he was issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

John Moore, of no fixed address, but of Chester, was handed the order at Crewe Magistrates Court on Tuesday 28 January.

The CBO, which was applied for by Chester Beat Team, prohibits Moore from entering Chester city centre (as shown on map) for the next five years, meaning he will be banned until January 2030.

Under the terms of the CBO, he is also prohibited from being drunk in any public place within England and Wales.

Failure to adhere to the order could result in a fine or imprisonment.

Inspector James Wilson said: "Officers from Chester City Beat Team were notified of an incident involving Moore confronting patrolling Cheshire West and Chester Council Officers, who had spotted him committing an offence in the city centre.

"Upon being challenged, Moore became confrontational towards council officers, threatening them and hurling homophobic abuse at them.

"This behaviour against two council officers and police, who were merely going about their duties by putting a halt to his anti-social behaviour, is completely unacceptable.

"John Moore is no stranger to offences like these and causes a persistent nuisance in and around Chester City Centre, so I hope the issuing of this Criminal Behaviour Order will act as a deterrent against any similar behaviour in the future.

"Should Moore be seen in the city centre between now and January 2030, he could be eligible for a considerable fine or could face a prison sentence."
