A group of care home residents have raised funds for a local charity in memory of a much-loved village resident.

Residents at Boughton Hall Retirement Village recently raised £2,650 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity during a knit and bake sale, held in memory of resident Dianne Crees.

The fundraising event was led by resident Maureen Thompson, who chose to support Clatterbridge Cancer Charity in Dianne's memory.

Five regular members of the village's knitting group, alongside friends and village staff, came together to raise funds through the sale of homemade Christmas cakes, lemon curd and a wide range of knitted items.

A village raffle and a memory tree also formed part of the event, contributing to the final total raised.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity was chosen as the beneficiary in recognition of the care Dianne received during her treatment at the centre. Following her passing, Dianne's family donated her remaining unused wool to the knitting group.

This enabled members to create many of the handmade items sold at the event, adding a deeply personal connection to the fundraiser.

Village resident Maureen Thompson said: "Using Dianne's wool was very comforting for us. The colours she had chosen reminded us all of her, and it felt like a lovely way to honour her memory."

Tanya Simpson, Community Fundraiser for Cheshire at Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, said: "We are so grateful to the knitting group for all their hard work in raising an incredible amount of money for our work supporting local people with cancer.

"We know how much it meant to them all, which makes it all the more special."

Boughton Hall Retirement Village offers over-55s the opportunity to enjoy an active and sociable retirement within a welcoming and supportive community, combining independent living with high-quality facilities and a vibrant social calendar.
