An investigation has been launched after a fire broke out inside a disused hotel on City Road this evening (8 June).

Crews attended The Belgrave Hotel at 5.37pm, with four fire engines sent from Chester, Powey Lane, Malpas and Ellesmere Port.

Two teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were sent inside the building to tackle the fire on the first and second floors.

City Road was closed off in both directions at 6.20pm, whilst crews tackled the fire.

The fire was extinguished at 7pm, with crews still checking the building as a precaution.

The road remains closed as firefighters continue to check the building.
