Two Horrible Histories productions will be staged at Storyhouse this autumn.

The shows, Terrible Tudors and Awful Egyptians, are based on Terry Deary's bestselling books and will be performed separately, focusing on two different periods of history.

Henry VIII, his six wives, Bloody Mary and Elizabeth I feature in Terrible Tudors, which also covers Henry's dispute with the Pope and the Spanish Armada.

Audiences will travel much further back in time for Awful Egyptians, which looks at the pharaohs, pyramids, mummification and Egyptian beliefs about death and the afterlife.

Packed with facts, larger-than-life characters and 3D special effects, the two productions will take Chester audiences on an entertaining journey through history.

The shows have been written by Deary, Neal Foster and JP Cherrington, with Foster also directing. Jackie Trousdale is responsible for the design, while the creative team includes lighting designer Jason Taylor, sound designer Nick Sagar, composer Matthew Scott and choreographer Kenn Oldfield.

Deary has written more than 200 books, with the 50-title Horrible Histories series having sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and been translated into 42 languages.

Birmingham Stage Company has produced the live Horrible Histories shows since 2005. Its other stage productions include adaptations of books by David Walliams and Roald Dahl.
