Police have confirmed the cause of a fire at a disused building on Hoole Way as "deliberate".

On Saturday 25 July, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at the site of the former Flookersbrook Pub on Hoole Way, Chester.

Three fire engines from Chester, Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane attended the scene. Cordons were put in place around Hoole Bridge whilst firefighters carried out searches to ensure the building was empty.

No one was found inside the building and a high-pressure fan was used to clear the smoke.

The following day (26 July), Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the cause of the fire as deliberate, with the case passed on to Cheshire Police.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Shortly before 5pm on Saturday 25 July, police were called to reports of a fire in a disused building on Hoole Road, Chester.

"Firefighter extinguished the blaze, which has since been confirmed as a deliberate ignition."

Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire police on 101 quoting IML-2381726.
