Historic Chester city centre bar unveils six-figure transformation

The Watergates has officially reopened following a six-figure investment.
Dating back to around 1180, the bar is situated within what is thought to be one of the oldest medieval crypts in England, featuring stone-vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches.
The renovation has made the most of the bar's historic features while sympathetically adding some modern-day comforts. Its exterior has been enhanced with new and refreshed décor, lighting, signage and improvements to the roof terrace.
Inside the Watergate Street venue, fresh furnishings have been added to the bar and dining areas, alongside new flooring, lighting and décor in keeping with the building's heritage.
"This is a building with such history and so many stories to tell," said Andria Pomeroy, general manager of The Watergates.
"We are excited about its next chapter. Regulars and tourists love the unique feel and we can offer some amazing 21st century hospitality in this 12th century building.
"We are here for all occasions, for friends and families, for people looking for a leisurely meal or a refreshing pitstop after a day touring the city, shopping or working. Come in and enjoy the warm Watergates welcome."
