The Watergates has temporarily closed for an autumn refurbishment.

Located on Watergate Street, the historic city centre bar has closed to the public while works take place, with the venue set to reopen in October.

Dating back to around 1180, the bar is situated within what is thought to be one of the oldest medieval crypts in England.

The works will preserve its historic features, including stone-vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches, while introducing some modern comforts for customers.

The Watergates is also recruiting for full- and part-time positions in its kitchen and bar teams.
