A new garden installation has opened at Eastgate Square, bringing free family activities and live music to Chester throughout August.

Launching today (Monday 3 August), Eastgate Garden has transformed the centre of the Square with a floral display featuring blossom trees, a flower-covered pergola, a central fountain and seating areas.

The month-long installation will host a series of free workshops and activities for families, alongside live performances taking place every Saturday afternoon.

Eight workshops will run during August, covering creative activities, wellbeing sessions and interactive experiences. Events include garden explorer hat-making, fairy door making, a butterfly discovery lab, pressed flower art and a mini DJ session.

Alongside the scheduled workshops, visitors can take part in the Garden Explorer Club, a self-guided trail, and The Garden Games, featuring giant games and activities available throughout the summer.

The weekly Garden Sessions will also see musicians and performers take to the Square every Saturday afternoon.

Lisa Rogers, centre manager at Eastgate Square, said: "Eastgate Garden is all about giving people a reason to spend time together and enjoy everything Chester has to offer this summer.

"We've created a beautiful space that's full of colour, creativity and experiences, where families can enjoy free activities, friends can catch up over live music and visitors can discover something new every time they visit."

Eastgate Garden is open throughout August and is free to visit.

• Thursday 6 August – The Garden Wellbeing Club (mini yoga, breathing games, mindful colouring)

• Tuesday 18 August – Garden Creator Studio (a floral selfie and content corner with props where families can capture keepsake photos and short videos with a take-away photo and frame)
• Thursday 20 August – Pressed Flower Art
• Tuesday 25 August – Garden Tote Bag Studio
• Thursday 27 August – Mini DJs Garden Sound Lab (learn basic DJ skills, mix tracks, use sound pads and make a short garden mix)
