Date set for by-election following death of veteran councillor

A date has been set for a by-election in Cheshire West and Chester following the death of a veteran councillor.

Conservative councillor Myles Hogg passed away on November 12 leaving a vacancy in the Willaston and Thornton ward.

The date set for the vote is Thursday, January 22, with prospective candidates having until Monday, December 22 to submit nomination papers.

Nomination papers can be obtained from the office of the returning officer at Cheshire West and Chester Council, The Portal, Wellington Road, Ellesmere Port.

Applications to register to vote must reach the electoral registration officer by midnight on Tuesday, January 6. Applications can be made online at: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Registered voters in the ward who wish to vote on the day must take an acceptable form of photo ID with them to the polling station.
