A new independent cafe will open on Chester's historic city walls next week.

Located at 5 City Walls, Crumb and Comfort will officially open its doors on Thursday 19 March.

Seeking to "enrich the local community," the team behind the venture say they want to create a welcoming space where people can gather and connect.

The independent coffee shop will be dog-friendly and offer food and drinks suitable for gluten-free and vegan diners.

"As a women-owned business, my mission is to create a welcoming space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy quality food and beverages," the owner of Crumb and Comfort previously said.

"Chester is a vibrant town with a rich culture, making it the perfect location for my cafe. The journey to launching my business has been filled with countless ups and downs, from securing funding to choosing the right location and designing the interior.

"Every step brings its own challenges, but it also brings excitement as I move closer to making my dream a reality."

The building was formerly home to Hanoi Social, a Vietnamese-inspired street food restaurant which closed in 2024. Having opened in 2018, the owners cited a "downturn in business" and "other internal challenges" as reasons for closing.

As one of the first businesses to open in Rufus Court in 1992 (the B&W Picture Place) I've seen countless shops, cafes, restaurants etc open and close there. I wish them much luck x
