An award-winning cake shop is set to open in Chester this weekend.

Abba Cakes, founded by Colombian-born patisserie chef and founder, Laura Johnson, is known for its beautifully crafted cakes and desserts.

The 31-year-old opened her first location in 2022 on Hoylake's high street - featuring a signature bright pink shop front. Her second venture, a store on Lower Bridge Street, will open on Saturday 11 October.

Unlike the Hoylake site, it will offer indoor seating and hot drinks - including fresh Colombian coffee.

"I always dreamt about opening a cake shop," Laura revealed to Chester Nub News last month.

"A lot of people said, oh, that's not going to work. So I opened it anyway.

"I feel like I am at the point that I always dreamed of - when a customer can call me and say, I have this event and I trust you to do whatever you want. It is truly an honor."

The store caters to weddings, birthdays, special events and everyday indulgences. It also offers catering services including dessert selection boxes and charcuterie-style grazing tables.

Chester's store menu will also change seasonally, with the autumnal offering available this weekend, as the shop opens its doors.

For Laura, her first Abba Cakes store is about more than just baking and selling cake, but the community she has built in Hoylake - something she hopes to emulate in Chester.

She added: "I do dream of being the cake shop in Chester. Hopefully, I get close to people's hearts here."
