Chester Town Hall will host a free civic history talk this month to mark Cheshire Day.

Sharing insights into Chester's role as the County Town of Cheshire, alongside its rich heritage and civic history, the walk will take place on Monday 30 March 2026.

The Lord Mayor of Chester and the Chester Charter Trustees will host the special talk from 2pm to 3pm, led by the Chester Civic Team.

After the talk, guests are welcome to have a look around one of the city's most recognisable and architecturally significant buildings.

Attendance is free of charge, but booking for the 2pm history talk is required.

In addition to the talk, Chester Town Hall will be open to the public from 11am to 3pm, giving visitors the opportunity to explore the building's historic rooms, learn about its civic traditions, and appreciate its remarkable Victorian Gothic design.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Sherin Akhtar said: "Cheshire Day is a wonderful moment to celebrate the history, identity, and shared pride of our county.

"Chester has stood at the heart of Cheshire for centuries, and I am delighted to welcome residents and visitors into our Town Hall to learn more about its story and significance and the City's civic history."

This event forms part of the wider programme of Cheshire Day celebrations taking place across the county.

Cheshire Day is an annual celebration of the rich history, culture, and contributions of the county. The date commemorates the charter of liberties granted to Cheshire by King Edward I in 1300, which functioned similarly to a local Magna Carta.
