Chester Raft Race goes space-themed for 51st anniversary
By Dherran Titherington 16th Apr 2026
Chester Raft Race returns to the Dee this summer, embracing an 'out of this world' space theme.
Taking place on Sunday 12 July and raising money for two local charities, the event will bring together elaborate homemade rafts, fancy dress, and thousands of spectators on the banks of the River Dee.
Organised by Chester Round Table, the 51st anniversary event will see teams embrace the space theme, with rockets, aliens and spaceships expected on the water.
This year's event will support Chester-based charity SPACE, which provides accessible play and support for children with additional needs, and the Martin Gallier Project, a suicide prevention service helping people across the North West.
A spokesperson for Chester Round Table said: "Our volunteers at Chester Round Table are in full swing preparing for the 51st Chester Raft Race, and we're thrilled to be bringing this iconic event back once again.
"It promises to be a fantastic family day out in the heart of Chester, with nearly 50 space-themed rafts creating an unforgettable spectacle as they race their way down the River Dee.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day and raising money for two brilliant local charities."
