A man has been arrested after 'Sick to Death' museum on Bridge Street was broken into and vandalised last night.

The damage was revealed to a member of staff who went to open the attraction this morning and received 'quite the shock'.

Police were called to the museum in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 6 March), with the museum closed today following the incident.

The museum reported the incident over social media today.

It said: "Unfortunately we will be closed today, as our museum was broken into and vandalised last night.

"To say we're all upset is a bit of an understatement.

"Thankfully, the only bodily injury was to Colin, our prop cadaver, and we can only hope that he gave them a bit of scare.

"The police and forensics are on scene now and we have CCTV, so this won't be the last of it.

"In the meantime, we'll be working to assess the damage and then put things back to right as soon as we can.

"We're really sorry that a group of inconsiderate ne'er do wells mean we everyone else misses out.

"And we were so excited to show you our World Book Day costumes today. Instead we're dealing with this now.

"We'll let you know as soon as we can when we'll be open again."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At 4.06am on Thursday 6 March police were called to reports of someone breaking into Chester Heritage Centre on Bridge Street.

"Officers attended and arrested a 21-year-old local man on suspicion of burglary other than a dwelling.

"He remains in custody at this time."
