Chatwins announces permanent closure of Northgate store on Christmas Eve
Chatwins has announced it will be closing its store on Northgate Street this Christmas Eve.
Managing director, Edward Chatwin, confirmed the news in a statement released today.
He said: "After nearly 20 wonderful years serving the people of Chester, we are saddened to announce the closure of our shop on Northgate Street.
"This decision has not been made lightly, but the challenging trading environment and rising costs have made it no longer viable for us to continue operating at this location.
"Our last day of trading will be on 24th December 2024.
"We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our customers for their loyal support and custom over the years—it has been an absolute privilege to be part of this vibrant community.
"Please rest assured that our other shops in the Chester area are continuing to trade as normal, and we look forward to welcoming you there.
"Thank you again for your support, and we look forward to serving you at our other locations soon."
The managing director also emphasised that redundancies were minimized 'wherever possible', with the majority of the staff at the Northgate store being offered positions at other Chatwins branches.
