One of Chester's top choirs is set to bring its current season to a close with a special jazz themed concert later this month.

The choir will stage "Spring Jazz" at 4pm on Saturday, 16 May at Wesley Church Centre in the city centre.

The programme features Will Todd's Jazz Missa Brevis, alongside Bob Chilcott's arrangements of The House of the Rising Sun and Scarborough Fair, as well as his setting of five Japanese poems, Furusato.

The performance will be accompanied by a live jazz trio of piano, bass and drums, under the direction of Joseph Judge.

A highlight of the concert will be Jazz Missa Brevis, following a successful workshop led by composer Will Todd earlier this year.

Written in 2015 for the choir of Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, the piece offers a fresh take on the traditional Latin Mass, blending it with Todd's signature jazz harmonies and melodic style.

Helen Crich, chair of Chester Bach Singers, said: "Come and join us at the Wesley Church Centre for the final concert of our current season. We have an exciting and varied programme of music in a range of styles, as is the tradition for our annual Spring/Summer event.

"Alongside Will Todd's 'Jazz Missa Brevis', we are delighted to be performing Bob Chilcott's arrangements of 'The House of the Rising Sun' and 'Scarborough Fair' and his arrangements of five Japanese poems, 'Furusato'.

"We hope you will enjoy hearing them as much as we enjoy singing them; this concert is the perfect way to swing into summer."

The choir is also preparing to mark its 50th anniversary, with plans due to be unveiled at the start of the next season.

Full details of "Spring Jazz" can be found here, where tickets can be bought online.
