A family-run and independent Chester eatery has officially closed its doors today (Monday 29 December).
Atina Kitchen first opened to the public in 2012, soon becoming a popular spot to eat, boasting an outdoor patio and an Art Deco-style interior.
Located on Foregate Street, the eatery served breakfast, brunch and dinner, specialising in Italian cuisine with a contemporary British twist.
Owner Jake Potter announced the closure earlier today, citing a "tough" hospitality scene for independents.
"Atina Kitchen has closed," he said.
"Although this is hard to put into words, it's helped by thinking about the incredible people I've worked alongside, amazing customers, great suppliers, producers & makers who have supported us and what we do."
The owner acknowledged the changes that have taken place over the course of 20 years in business, as he added: "We've done so much over the 20 years.
"The business has changed so much, the world has changed so much. But 20 years, it's quite an achievement. Something we can all be proud of and I thank every person that's contributed to the business over the years."
He pointed to the current conditions for small businesses in hospitality today, referencing the "huge amounts of personal sacrifice" needed to stay afloat.
"Hospitality is tough, now more than ever," he added, "I wish nothing but the best for all our friends in the industry. I hope you find your way to thrive and be successful."
Those with future bookings will be contacted over the next few days.
