A local under 11s district football team has kicked off their big season with the support of local automotive retailer, BYD Chester.

The sponsorship has provided the team with a brand new home kit that will see them compete in the National Cup, as well as take on academy sides from Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton.

Behind the scenes, the sponsorship has eased a significant financial burden on the volunteers who keep the team running.

Like many grassroots clubs across the country, the team receives no external funding, with essential costs being covered personally by the coaching staff.

Mark Hughes who manages the under 11s district football team, said when they first set up the team, no external funding avenues were available, making things "incredibly difficult".

He added: "Not only are the boys incredibly grateful to have the backing of such a globally recognised brand, but the support has also made a huge difference to the parents.

"The sponsorship and partnership with BYD has been absolutely invaluable to us. They put so much time, effort and commitment into getting the boys to fixtures, travelling around the country and supporting them in all weathers."

Mark explained that BYD Chester covering the cost of kits and other essentials has removed "another financial pressure for families".

He said this allows every player to concentrate on "what really matters", such as giving the boys opportunities they might not have had.

"We're genuinely grateful to BYD Chester and Swansway Motor Group for getting behind us and believing in what we're trying to build," he added.

"It's about so much more than football kits; it's about supporting grassroots football and giving these boys the best possible opportunities."

The partnership sees the BYD Chester logo proudly displayed on the front of the team's new shirts, with Swansway Motor Group featuring on the sleeves, providing players with a professional kit as they represent their communities throughout the season.

Jay Dougan, Head of Business at BYD Chester, said: "Grassroots football plays such an important role in bringing communities together and giving young people opportunities to develop both on and off the pitch.

"When we heard about the commitment and dedication behind this team, we were delighted to help.

"The volunteers give up a great amount of their own time to make football possible for these young players and we're proud to play a small part in supporting them. We wish the team every success this season."

The team is looking forward to an exciting few months, proudly representing Ellesmere Port, Neston, Frodsham and Helsby both locally and further afield.
