Despatch Manager

The company:

Cala Consulting are recruiting for a Despatch Manager for their client based in Chester. The Despatch Manager to lead and manage our despatch operations within a high-volume Glass Processing facility. This is a critical role in ensuring the products are dispatched accurately, safely, and on time to meet customer requirements.

The role:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing despatch operations, ideally within the glass industry, and a proven track record in team leadership and logistics coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the despatch department to ensure timely and complete delivery of products.
  • Plan and organise daily tour areas (delivery routes) in collaboration with transport and logistics teams.
  • Allocate and coordinate staff across delivery tours, ensuring optimal workforce utilization.
  • Ensure all loads are packed and prepared for despatch on schedule, with no shortages or errors.
  • Conduct daily checks and ensure compliance with loading procedures, health & safety, and quality standards.
  • Liaise closely with Production Managers to ensure despatch and production schedules are aligned.
  • Monitor and manage team performance, attendance, and adherence to company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities and report on department KPIs.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements in despatch processes.
  • Train, mentor, and develop dispatch team members to achieve department goals.

Experience required:

  • Proven experience in despatch/logistics within a manufacturing or industrial environment (glass processing preferred).
  • Strong people management and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and direct a team.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally, especially with Production and Logistics.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Sound knowledge of health & safety and loading compliance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Competent with scheduling tools and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with dispatch a plus.
