Maintenance EngineerChester 4 on 4 off (Days / Nights) 40.00ph UmbrellaGap Technical are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to maintain, test, and continuously improve the mechanical systems and equipment at one of our key clients.This is a hands-on role that requires strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced industrial environment.Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and optimise a wide range of mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Carry out diagnostics, fault-finding, and root cause analysis on mechanical and control system issues.
  • Plan and deliver preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Support upgrades and modifications to existing machinery and plant systems.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve technical issues and drive process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities and communicate technical information clearly.

Required Knowledge & Experience

  • Boiler / steam systems
  • FMCG / packaging manufacturing experience
  • Industrial building services
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Conveyor systems - maintenance and troubleshooting in production environments

Qualifications & Skills

  • Apprentice-trained Mechanical Engineer
  • 3-5 years' experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or process plant environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve technical issues quickly
  • Able to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting
  • Self-motivated with a drive for continuous learning and development
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance
